Trees For Ringgold

Trees for Ringgold is a volunteer community project, working under the sponsorship of the Ringgold Downtown Partners and Northwest Georgia Bank Foundation. It is funded entirely by contributions made by concerned citizens and businesses.

Our goal is to rebuild, repair and revitalize the City of Ringgold, in the wake of the April 27, 2011 tornados. At present, our main focus is on planting trees for residences and businesses in the downtown and the area worst hit by the storm, focusing especially on the neighborhoods adjacent to RHS. The obvious objective is to repair some of the damage done by the storm, but the secondary purpose is to bring the community together in a positive, constructive and healing way. Dozens of people have been working for several months now to bring this idea to life.

Planting Days: On october 27th Trees For Ringgold volunteers planted over 340 trees throughout the town of Ringgold. A second tree distribution is planned for February 2012. Additional details on this and sign up instructions will be posted here soon.

Ringgold, Remembrance and Renewal: As a kickoff for the project, we held the Ringgold, Remembrance and Renewal program on the courthouse lawn on the six month anniversary of the storm - almost to the minute. Many of the citizens of Ringgold and out of town volunteers attended, and were entertained by the award winning Ringgold High School Marching Band, and The Mount Peria Church Choir. Local talent Adrienna "Breezy" Walker opened the ceremony with a beautiful version of our national anthem. The culmination of the program was the planting of a 30 foot October Glory Red Maple on the lawn to replace the existing stump. The event was extensively covered by local and regional media outlets.

Youth Tree Workshop: Finally, on Saturday 10/29 there was a Youth Tree Workshop, to educate youth about the importance of trees in our environment, and how to plant and nurture a tree. Each child attending received a seedling to plant, and the children helped to plant five October Glory Red Maple trees in the park.
